Antique French Textiles Puzzle Ball Pincushion
Antique French Textiles Puzzle Ball Pincushion
This pincushion is made from beautiful antique fabrics I purchased directly from a dealer in France several years ago. When I received them in the mail, I couldn't bring myself to cut into them... just as before with the antique silk and linen... and so they sat in a box. And I forgot about them.
Recently when I found the linen and silk fabrics, I also found these and knew I would use them to make a puzzle ball pincushion. The antique French textiles (the outer sections) are a red, ivory, and tan striped ticking, a red damask, and a red, burgundy, and tan floral cotton print. The inner sections are made from a vintage damask tablecloth that I had previously hand-dyed / aged.
This is completely hand-cut and hand-stitched by me. It was a dream to sew and I savored each and every little stitch taken with needle and thread. How I love hand-work!
It measures about 5" across.
If you'd like to add this to your collection or start a new collection, the cost is
$95 (plus shipping)
SOLD ~ thank you!

Silk & Linen Puzzle Ball Pincushion
Silk & Linen Puzzle Ball Pincushion
This pin cushion is completely hand-stitched by me. The fabrics used are antique textiles: a wonderful floral linen and a gorgeous ombre stripe silk. I purchased these from an antiques dealer years ago and have been saving them for the perfect project and this is one of them!
I have sewn a vintage green glass bead at each intersection. These were taken from an old necklace I took apart to re-purpose the glass beads and the filigree fastener.
This puzzle ball pin cushion is about 4" across.
$75 (plus shipping)
SOLD - thank you!

Black and Orange Puzzle Ball Pincushion
Initially, I had planned on making a black and orange puzzle ball pincushion, but since I couldn't find any black velvet in my fabrics, I went with brown and orange, which is great for fall.
Later when I was looking for blue fabrics for a special order, I ran across a vintage pair of really thick, black wool, men's pants... no zipper, snap closure... maybe mid-century, I think.
Anyway, I decided to try another puzzle ball pincushion using the orange velvet and black wool. Although it took much longer to hand-stitch the thick wool, it turned out great and I love the contrast in fabrics.
The orange isn't quite as light as it looks in the photos. It's a very pretty mellow orange and looks perfect in a prim, folk art decor. Look how well it goes with one of my pumpkin and raven papercuttings!
This puzzle ball pincushion is slightly larger than my last one. This one is about 5 1/2" across.
If you're interested, there's only one available...
$75 plus $6 shipping in the U.S.
I will ship internationally --- email me for shipping cost.
SOLD ~ thank you!
That's it until next week!
Blessings,
Lana

Vintage Velvet Puzzle Ball Pincushion - updated
Do you remember the puzzle ball pincushions I shared on my blog a few years ago? I still have them and have wanted to make some myself for a long time. This week I finally sat down, figured it out, and made one using vintage velvet!
This puzzle ball pincushion was entirely stitched by hand. I used some of the vintage velvet that I use for my pumpkins. It is orange and brown... perfect for your autumn or Thanksgiving decor. It measures about 5" across.
I'm not sure how many more I will make for a while as they are very time consuming... especially when hand-stitched! :)
Email me for a PayPal invoice or to ask questions.
Thank you so much for the great response! I will go through my stash of vintage and antique fabrics and see what I can come up with for future puzzle balls.
P.S. I still have a few pumpkin papercuttings still available here.

As requested, more papercuttings have been listed! Thank you so much for a quick sell out on my Early Work Mercantile page, which was my second batch of papercuttings. Since I had only two left from my first batch, I am adding them to this list to make it easier to find them all in one place.
All are cut free-hand by me, no patterns are used... completely one-of-a-kind!

* original letters from the early 1900s
* French envelopes from the early 1900s
* flyleaf pages from antique and vintage books
* vintage metallic papers that were the linings of envelopes
* cardstock (black and sepia are used for trees and birds)
* vintage doilies for spiderwebs
All are signed and dated, Lana Manis 2015, and have the titles on the back.
